CHURCH FOUNDERS
Husband and wife Ministry Team.
Husband-Wife Ministerial Team Dedicated To Serving Mechanicstown Spiritual Needs. The late Herbert and Evangelist Gladys Jarvis of Middletown, New York
Founded, The Gospel Mission Church in 1961.
This is their story.
A husband-wife-ministerial team, dedicated to preaching and teaching the Christian gospel, has put their varied talents to work in remodeling a church
to serve the spiritual needs of a racially intergraded Mechanicstown congregation.
"The Rev. and Mrs. Herbert Jarvis of 5 Fair Ave said they are both licensed ministers of the New York General Conference of the Bethel AME Church. Their desire to serve a parish of their own remained unfulfilled until they were able to rent the former Nazarene Church and establish the "Voice of the Gospel Mission Church. The church is on Fairfax Avenue, Middletown, New York.
Rev. and Mrs. Jarvis were regular worshippers at the church when it was owned and operated by the Nazarenes. After the sect sold the church to a private citizen, the building stood idle for many months. The desire for their church grew keener. We felt we were called by the Lord to preach said Mrs. Jarvis

Our faith
What we believe, teach, and practice as God's children.
We believe that all scripture is given by the inspiration of God, and is profitable for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work. (2-Tim.3:16-17).
We believe what the Bible teaches about the Lord, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit.
We believe in these five truths.
(1) Jesus was born of a virgin
according to the scriptures
As told in (Matt.1:18-21).
(2) Jesus was crucified
according to the scriptures
as told in (Luke 23:33).
(3) Jesus was Buried
according to the scriptures
as told in (1-Cor:15:4).
(4) God raised Jesus from the dead
according to scripture
as told in (Acts 2:24).
(5) We believe in life after death
according to scripture
as told in (John 6:54).
The late Stewards of the Church.
Because of the dedication and faithfulness of our late ancestors, we are reaping the rewards from their labor of love which they showed toward the Lord and His Church. God is blessing us, their offspring because of their faithfulness and sacrifices they endured for the sake of the Gospel.

THE VALUE OF TRIALS
Whenever a Christian faces a trial or affliction or experiences some physical or mental distress, the first words out of their mouth are Lord, why did you let this happen to me, a follower of Christ?
Not until a Christian understands God’s purpose for allowing trials in the life of a Christian their faith in God will continue to fail them.
Why do Christians have to bear afflictions and face trials anyway? Some Christians have abandoned their faith because they do not understand why God will allow Christians to suffer.
What causes trials?
1) Disobediences can cause trials,
as told in (Colossians 3:5-10).
(2) From Satan by the permissive will
of God, as told in (Job.2:1-7)
and also (Job.42:10-17).
3) From the chastisement of the Lord,
as told in (Hebrews 12:1-15).
What the apostle Paul wrote about trials.
The apostle Paul writes, reminding Christians not to be shaken, turned away, or moved by afflictions, seeing that God appointed Christians to such, as told in (1-Thessaionians 3:1-5).
Do not be shaken by trials.
(1) For Christians are appointed for such, the apostle
Paul writes in (1 Thessalonians 1:2-10).
(2) Blessed are the persecuted for righteousness
sake, for theirs, is the kingdom of
heaven, Jesus said in (Matthew 5:10), as well as
In (Matt. 5:12).
3) If they persecuted Me, they will also persecute a Christian, said Jesus, in (John 15:20).
A proper attitude toward trials
All during Job’s suffering, he kept the proper attitude toward the Lord, for Job said, God knows the way that I take; When He has tested me, I shall come forth as Gold, as told in (Job.23:10).
Faith, when tested, produces patience, James writes in (James 1:1-4), and also in
(Romans 5:1-9).
The Lord knows that we are but flesh and weak when it comes
to temptation, however, the Lord promised to do two things on our behalf.
(1) God promised that He will not allow us to be tempted beyond what we can bear.
(2) With the temptation God promised that He will also make a way of escape, that we may be able to bear it as told in (1- Corinthians.10:13).
The biblical pattern of suffering.
Take the prophets, who spoke in the name of the Lord, as an example of suffering and patience. Then we are reminded of the perseverance of Job who has seen the end intended by the Lord-that the Lord is very compassionate and merciful, as told in (James.5:10,11).
Christian suffering as a pattern.
To this you were called, because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that we should follow His steps as told in (1- Peter.2:21).
God’s purpose for Trials.
(1) To test our faith, as told in (James 1:1-8).
(2) to work penitence in us (Rom.5:3,4)
(3) To be Partakers of Christ's suffering, (1-Peter.4:13).
(4) to discipline us as the children of God, as told in (Heb.12:10).
Results of Trials:
(1) Trials bring us into conformity with Christ, as told in (Heb.12:6).
(2) Trials bring happiness in the Christian experience as told in (Job.5:17)
(3) Yields fruit of righteousness as told in(Heb.112:11).
(4) Glorifies God (1 Peter.4:16).
(5)Produces, praise, honor, and glory (1 Peter.1:7).
When a Christian, realizes that this world is not his portion and that suffering at this present time, is not worthy to be compared with the glory that shall be revealed in Jesus, then he is in a position to have the right outlook on trials.
Christ did not say that Christians would not have afflictions, but He did teach that our light affliction, which is but for a moment, work-eth for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory” as told in (2 Corth.2:4:17).
